Burkhard Bressel studied chemistry at the Technical University of Darmstadt (specializing in chemical process engineering and physical chemistry). After a stay abroad at the University of Bordeaux (solid-state chemistry, crystal growing) he received a PhD at the Max-Planck Institute for Physical Chemistry in Berlin in the field of electrochemistry.

Through ten years of activity in the development division of a large industrial company, Burkhard Bressel gained extensive experience in product engineering and research management. He has a deep knowledge in many technical fields, in particular process engineering, electrochemistry, chemical analysis, solid-state chemistry, semiconductor chemistry, manufacturing of printed circuit boards and electroplating. He has been active since 1993 in the field of industrial property rights. His specialty is prosecution and opposition proceedings, particularly in the field of chemistry, process engineering, and mechanical engineering. He has specialized knowledge and experience in examination procedures at the US Patent and Trademark Office, and other foreign patent offices.

Burkhard Bressel also works as a tutor at the Centre d'Etudes Internationales de la Propriété industrielle (CEIPI) (University of Strasbourg).
