Joachim Brunotte studied Physics in Heidelberg and Munich, and specialized in the fields of solid state physics, meteorology and thermodynamics. As a Ph.D. student he worked on the use of renewable energy. His practical and technical experience from this time period range from computer programming via high vacuum technology, thin-film technology, and measurement engineering in developing an industrial production method.

Joachim completed his education as a patent lawyer in law firms in Düsseldorf and Munich, at the regional court in Düsseldorf, at the German Patent and Trademark Office, and at the Federal Patent Court. After passing his patent bar examination, he spent one year in London working in an English patent law firm.

In his professional activity, he has served clients in various fields of technology, for example vehicle construction, motor technology, coordinate measuring machines, information and communication technology, electric energy converter technology, graphic data processing, electronic control systems, and manufacture of highly-integrated electronic circuits. He is also active in obtaining and enforcing trademarks.
